Recipe Background

Delicious Diner Patties don't mess about! Even the name tells you what you need to know — these are delicious! Tender, beefy, savory, these patties would make for a great meal all on their own. But this dish goes further by coating the beef patties in a spicy and velvety beef and mushroom gravy. Delicious Diner Patties! Just yum!

Ingredients

  • 1 large egg room temperature
  • 2 green onions sliced
  • 1/4 cup seasoned breadcrumbs
  • 1 tablespoon prepared mustard
  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 (12-ounce) jar beef gravy
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 teaspoons prepared horseradish
  • 1 (8-ounce) carton fresh mushrooms sliced
  • mashed potatoes optional, to taste, cooked and hot, for serving
  • fresh parsley optional, to taste, minced, for garnish

Directions

  • In a large bowl, add the egg and beat it well.
  • Add the green onions, the breadcrumbs, and the mustard to the beaten egg and stir to combine.
  • Add the beef to the egg mixture and mix lightly but thoroughly.
  • Shape the beef mixture into 4 (1/2-inch-thick) patties.
  • In a skillet over medium-high heat, add the beef patties and cook, flipping them once, until the meat reaches an internal temperature of at least 145 degrees F for medium doneness, about 4-5 minutes per side.
  • Drain the fat from the skillet.
  • In a small bowl, add the gravy, the water, and the horseradish and stir to combine.
  • Add the mushrooms to the gravy mixture and stir to combine.
  • Pour the gravy mixture over the beef patties in the skillet and cook, uncovered, until the mushrooms are tender and heated through, about 5 minutes.
  • Plate the patties over the mashed potatoes and top with the gravy.
  • Garnish with the parsley and serve.
