Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons butter divided
- 1/2 pound smoked Polish sausage or smoked kielbasa cut into 1/2-inch slices
- 1/2 large head cabbage coarsely chopped
- 1 medium onion chopped
- 2 (8-ounce) cans tomato sauce
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon paprika
- 2 large potatoes peeled and cubed
Directions
- In a large enameled cast-iron or other oven-proof skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of the butter.
- Add the sausage and cook until browned, about 5 minutes.
- Transfer the sausage to a plate.
- Melt the remaining butter in the same skillet.
- Add the cabbage and the onion and sauté until tender, about 5-7 minutes.
- In a small bowl, combine the tomato sauce, the sugar, and the paprika.
- Pour the sauce mixture over the cabbage mixture.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low.
- Cover and simmer the mixture for 20 minutes.
- Add the potatoes and the sausage, then cover again to simmer until the potatoes are tender, about 30 minutes.
- Serve.
