Ingredients

  • 2 (42-ounce) cans pie filling flavor of your choice
  • 1 (15.25-ounce) box yellow or white cake mix
  • 2 sticks unsalted butter cold
  • vanilla ice cream optional, to taste, for topping

Directions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Grease a 9x13-inch baking pan.
  • Add the pie filling to the prepared baking pan and spread it out evenly.
  • Sprinkle the dry cake mix over the pie filling, making sure the pie filling is completely covered. Do not stir.
  • Cut the cold butter into very thin slices.
  • Place the butter slices evenly over the cake mix layer, trying to cover most of the surface of the cake mix layer. Do not stir.
  • Bake until the top is golden-brown and the filling is bubbling around the edges, about 45-50 minutes.
  • Serve warm topped with the ice cream.
