Ingredients
- 4 hoagie rolls cut into 1-inch-thick cubes
- 4 tablespoons butter melted
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil divided
- 1 onion sliced
- 1 red bell pepper sliced
- 1 green bell pepper sliced
- kosher salt to taste
- freshly ground black pepper to taste
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 1 1/2 pounds sirloin steak sliced into strips
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 12 slices provolone
- 1 cup low-sodium beef broth
- parsley to taste, chopped, for garnish
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
- Coat a 9x13-inch baking dish with cooking spray.
- On a large rimmed baking sheet, add the hoagie roll cubes, the melted butter, and the garlic powder and gently toss to coat.
- Bake the hoagie roll cubes until they are lightly golden, about 15 minutes.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, add 1 tablespoon of the oil.
- Add the onions, the red bell peppers, the green bell peppers, the salt, and the black pepper to the heated oil and cook, stirring occasionally, until the veggies are soft, about 8 minutes.
- Stir the garlic into the bell pepper mixture and cook until the garlic is fragrant, about 1 minute.
- Pour the bell pepper mixture into a large bowl.
- Return the skillet to medium-high heat and add the remaining oil.
- Add the steak strips in a single layer to the heated oil and generously season them with the salt and the pepper.
- Sear the seasoned steak strips until the bottoms are deeply golden, about 3 minutes.
- Flip the steak strips and sear until the reverse sides are deeply golden, about 2-3 minutes.
- Add the bell pepper mixture and the Worcestershire sauce to the steak strips and stir to combine. Transfer the skillet from the heat.
- Evenly spread 1/2 of the toasted hoagie roll cubes into the prepared baking dish, then evenly top with 1/2 of the steak mixture.
- Evenly lay 6 slices of the provolone over the steak mixture, then evenly top with the remaining hoagie roll cubes and the remaining steak mixture.
- Evenly pour the broth over the steak bake and evenly lay the remaining provolone slices on top.
- Bake the steak bake until the cheese is melty, about 15 minutes.
- Serve the steak bake garnished with the parsley.
