Ingredients
- 1 (10.5-ounce) can French onion soup divided
- 1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef
- 1/8 teaspoon black ground pepper
- 1 (10.5-ounce) can cream of mushroom soup or cream of chicken soup
- 1 (1-ounce) packet dry onion soup mix
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon mustard powder
- 1 (6-ounce) jar sliced mushrooms optional, drained
- 1 (14.5-ounce) can French-cut green beans drained
- 2-3 cups mashed potatoes cooked and cooled (leftovers work great)
- fresh parsley optional, to taste, chopped, for garnish
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
- In a deep skillet, combine 1/3 can of the French onion soup, the ground beef, and the pepper.
- Simmer the beef until cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
- In a small bowl, combine the remaining French onion soup, the cream of mushroom soup, the dry onion soup mix, and the flour until well-combined and no longer lumpy.
- Add the ketchup, the water, the Worcestershire sauce, the mustard powder, and the mushrooms to the soup mixture, mixing well.
- Transfer the beef mixture to a 9x13-inch pan.
- Pour the soup mixture over top of the beef mixture.
- Layer the green beans over top of the soup mixture.
- Top the bake with the mashed potatoes.
- Bake until heated through, about 20 minutes.
- Garnish with the fresh parsley and serve immediately.
