Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1 cup plus 2 tablespoons butter softened, divided
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 large eggs
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 (6-ounce) can frozen orange juice concentrate thawed
  • 4 tablespoons orange zest divided
  • 6 ounces cream cheese softened
  • 4 cups confectioners' sugar
  • 4 tablespoons whole milk

Directions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, add the white sugar and 1 cup of the butter and using an electric handheld mixer, beat until light and fluffy.
  • Add the sour cream and the eggs to the butter mixture and beat until well-blended.
  • In a bowl, add the flour, the baking powder, the baking soda, and the salt and whisk to combine.
  • Reserve 2 tablespoons of the orange juice concentrate.
  • Add the remaining orange juice concentrate and the flour mixture to the butter mixture and mix well to combine into a dough.
  • Add 2 tablespoons of the orange zest to the dough and stir to combine.
  • Drop the cookie dough by the heaping tablespoonful onto the prepared baking sheets. You may need to work in batches.
  • Bake the cookies until the edges just begin to brown, about 10 minutes.
  • Transfer the cookies to wire racks to cool completely.
  • Repeat the baking process as needed until all of the dough is used.
  • In a small bowl, add the cream cheese, the remaining butter, the confectioners' sugar, the remaining orange zest, the reserved orange juice concentrate, and the milk and whisk until smooth.
  • Evenly spread a small amount of the frosting onto each of the cooled cookies.
  • Serve.
