Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups pecans chopped
- 1 1/2 cups sweetened shredded coconut
- 1 (13.25-ounce) box chocolate fudge cake mix plus the ingredients called for on the package
- 1 1/4 cups semisweet chocolate chips divided
- 1/2 tablespoon flour
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese room temperature
- 3 cups powdered sugar
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
- Coat a 9x13-inch baking pan with nonstick spray.
- In the prepared baking pan, evenly sprinkle the pecans and the coconut.
- In a large bowl, prepare the chocolate fudge cake batter, according to the package directions.
- In a small bowl, add 3/4 cup of the chocolate chips and the flour and stir to combine.
- Add the flour-coated chocolate chips to the cake batter and fold to combine.
- Spoon the cake batter mixture over the pecans and the coconut in the baking pan.
- In a microwave-safe bowl, add the butter and microwave it until it has just melted.
- Allow the melted butter to cool slightly.
- In a bowl, add the cream cheese and using an electric handheld mixer, beat until smooth.
- Slowly add the melted butter to the beaten cream cheese, while beating, until smooth and combined.
- Add the powdered sugar, 1 cup at a time, to the cream cheese mixture and beat after each addition until smooth.
- Dollop the cream cheese mixture by the rounded tablespoonful randomly over the top of the cake batter in the baking pan.
- Sprinkle the remaining chocolate chips over the cream cheese mixture dollops and the cake batter in the baking pan.
- Bake until the chocolate cake is set, about 40-50 minutes.
- Serve.
