Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup coconut aminos
  • 2 tablespoons toasted sesame oil
  • 4 cloves garlic peeled and whole
  • 1 medjool date pitted, can substitute 2 teaspoons maple syrup
  • 1 (1-inch) knob fresh ginger peeled
  • 2 teaspoons gochugaru optional
  • 1 1/2 pounds steak such as sirloin, rib-eye, strip, or tenderloin, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 1 tablespoon avocado oil
  • sesame seeds optional, to taste, for garnish
  • green onions optional, to taste, chopped, for garnish

Directions

  • In a blender, add the coconut aminos, the toasted sesame oil, the garlic cloves, the date, the ginger, and the gochugaru.
  • Cover the blender and blend the marinade mixture until smooth.
  • In a large, resealable plastic bag, add the marinade and the steak pieces and seal the bag.
  • Massage the steak pieces in the marinade to coat them.
  • Place the bag in the refrigerator to marinate for at least 2 hours and up to overnight.
  • Transfer the steak pieces from the marinade and drain them, discarding the excess marinade.
  • In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the avocado oil and allow it to heat until it is sizzling.
  • Add the marinated steak pieces to the hot oil in a single layer and cook, undisturbed, until seared on one side, about 2 minutes.
  • Flip the steak pieces and cook, undisturbed, until they reach an internal temperature of 135 degrees F for a medium-rare doneness, about 2 minutes.
  • Serve the steak pieces garnished with the sesame seeds and the green onions.
