Ingredients
For the cake:
- 2 sticks butter cut into cubes
- 1 cup water
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 2 eggs beaten
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla bean paste or vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
For the frosting:
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/4 cup milk
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla bean paste or vanilla extract
- 1 cup walnuts chopped
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
- Coat a 10x15-inch baking pan with cooking spray.
- In a large saucepan, add 2 sticks of the cubed butter and the water and bring the mixture to a boil.
- Transfer the saucepan from the heat.
- Add the flour, the granulated sugar, the eggs, the sour cream, 1 teaspoon of the vanilla bean paste, the salt, and the baking soda to the butter mixture and stir until smooth.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan.
- Bake until the cake is golden-brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, about 20-22 minutes.
- Allow the cake to cool for 20 minutes.
- In a saucepan over medium heat, add the remaining butter and the milk and cook, while stirring, until it comes to a low boil. Ensure the milk does not get scorched.
- Transfer the saucepan from the heat.
- Slowly add the powdered sugar and the remaining vanilla bean paste to the milk mixture and mix well to combine until smooth.
- Spread the frosting over the warm cake.
- Sprinkle the walnuts over the frosting.
- Serve.
