Ingredients
For the turkey:
- 1 pound lean ground turkey
- 1 onion finely diced
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 1 green bell pepper diced
For the sauce:
- 1 cup tomato sauce
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 1 tablespoon cider vinegar
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
For serving:
- hamburger buns to taste
- coleslaw optional, to taste
Directions
- Combine the turkey, the onion, and the garlic in a large skillet.
- Cook the turkey mixture over medium heat until no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes.
- Drain the skillet of fat.
- Add the green pepper and cook until tender, about 5 minutes.
- Add the tomato sauce, the ketchup, the cider vinegar, the brown sugar, the Worcestershire sauce, the chili powder, and the yellow mustard and stir to combine.
- Simmer the mixture uncovered until thickened, about 5-6 minutes.
- Spoon the mixture over the hamburger buns.
- Add the coleslaw and serve.
