Ingredients

For the turkey:

  • 1 pound lean ground turkey
  • 1 onion finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 green bell pepper diced

For the sauce:

  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard

For serving:

  • hamburger buns to taste
  • coleslaw optional, to taste

Directions

  • Combine the turkey, the onion, and the garlic in a large skillet.
  • Cook the turkey mixture over medium heat until no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Drain the skillet of fat.
  • Add the green pepper and cook until tender, about 5 minutes.
  • Add the tomato sauce, the ketchup, the cider vinegar, the brown sugar, the Worcestershire sauce, the chili powder, and the yellow mustard and stir to combine.
  • Simmer the mixture uncovered until thickened, about 5-6 minutes.
  • Spoon the mixture over the hamburger buns.
  • Add the coleslaw and serve.
