Ingredients

3 cups flour
2 cups plus 1 teaspoon sugar divided
3 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 cup margarine cold
1/2 cup butter cold
2 eggs
3/4 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
5 large apples peeled and cored, thinly sliced
1 teaspoon cinnamon

Directions

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
Grease a 10x15-inch cookie sheet.
In a large bowl, combine the flour, 2 cups of the sugar, and the baking powder.
Add the margarine and the butter and mix with your hands or with forks until a fine crumb mixture forms.
Set aside 1 1/2 cups of the crumb mixture.
In the remaining crumb mixture add the eggs, the milk, and the vanilla, mixing until just moist.
Pour the crumb mixture into the prepared cookie sheet.
Top the crumb mixture on the cookie sheet with the sliced apples.
Sprinkle the cinnamon and the remaining sugar on top of the apple slices.
Top the apple slices with the reserved crumb mixture, patting it down slightly.
Bake until golden-brown on top and the cake is cooked through, about 30-35 minutes.
