Ingredients
- 1 (21-ounce) can apple pie filling
- 3 eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 10 slices day-old brioche bread French bread, or cinnamon raisin bread
- 1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 2 tablespoons butter melted, plus more, to taste, softened, for serving
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
- Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
- Spread the pie filling in the dish.
- In a pie plate, beat the eggs, the milk, and the vanilla.
- Dip the bread slices into the egg mixture, soaking them for about 1 minute per slice and turning once.
- Arrange two rows of the soaked bread slices on top of the pie filling, overlapping the slices slightly.
- In a small bowl, mix the cinnamon and the sugar together.
- Brush the bread with 2 tablespoons of the melted butter.
- Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture over the bread slices. If you're making it ahead, cover and refrigerate it after this step.
- Bake the dish uncovered until lightly browned, about 30-35 minutes.
- Serve fruit-side up with the extra butter.
