Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 medium onion chopped
  • 1 pound extra-lean ground beef
  • 3-4 cloves garlic minced
  • salt to taste
  • pepper to taste
  • 3 cups marinara divided
  • 20 ounces cheese ravioli uncooked
  • 2 cups mozzarella cheese shredded
  • 1 cup parmesan cheese freshly grated

Directions

  • Move an oven rack to the top third of the oven.
  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • Add the oil and the onion to a skillet over medium-high heat and sauté until the onions are starting to brown and are tender, about 4-5 minutes.
  • Add in the ground beef and the garlic and cook, breaking up the beef as it sautés, until browned and cooked through, about 5-8 minutes.
  • Spoon out any excess fat.
  • Season the beef mixture with the salt and the pepper.
  • Add 2 cups of the marinara to the ground beef mixture, stirring to incorporate and heating it through.
  • Pour the remaining marinara into the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly along the bottom.
  • Add 1/2 of the ravioli to the baking dish, aiming for a fairly even layer but allowing for a little overlap.
  • Add 1/2 of the beef sauce to the baking dish.
  • Add 1/2 of the mozzarella and 1/2 of the parmesan to the baking dish.
  • Repeat the layers.
  • Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and broil until the top cheese layer is bubbly and browned, about 3 minutes.
  • Serve immediately.
