Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons salted butter
- 3 medium-size yellow onions very thinly sliced
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- 1/4 cup white wine divided
- 1 (12-ounce) package of sour cream
- 1 (8-ounce) package of cream cheese softened
- fresh parsley to taste
- soy sauce or Worcestershire sauce optional, to taste
Directions
- On a nonstick skillet, over medium heat, melt the butter.
- Add the onions, salt, and sugar to the melted butter.
- Sauté until the onions are very translucent and starting to brown, stirring every few minutes, for about 10-15 minutes.
- Pour 1 tablespoon of wine into the onion mixture, letting it sizzle out and stirring.
- Repeat until all the wine has been used.
- Continue cooking the onion mixture until the onions are deep golden brown in color and fragrant, about 25-30 minutes.
- Transfer the onions to a cutting board and coarsely chop.
- In a medium bowl, mix the cream cheese and sour cream.
- Mix the onions and parsley into the cream cheese mixture.
- Taste for seasoning.
- Mix the soy sauce into the cream cheese mixture.
- Serve with chips, crackers, or veggies.
