Ingredients
- 8 ounces fresh sausage ground or links with casings removed
- 1/2 cup onions finely chopped
- 4 ounces cream cheese softened
- 1 cup cheddar cheese shredded, divided
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon water
- 3 (6-ounce 5-count) can biscuit dough
- all-purpose flour to taste, for dusting the biscuits
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
- Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a skillet over medium heat, add the sausage and the onions and cook, while crumbling the meat, until the sausage is no longer pink, about 5-6 minutes.
- In a medium bowl, add the cream cheese and 3/4 of the cheese and stir to combine.
- Add the sausage mixture to the cream cheese mixture and use a wooden spoon to stir until they are evenly combined.
- In a small bowl, add the egg and the water, then whisk to combine.
- On a large work surface, open the cans and pull out the biscuits. There should be 15 total. Dust the tops and the bottoms of each of the biscuits with the flour.
- Use a rolling pin to roll each of the biscuits into oval shapes that are about 1/8-inch-thick.
- Spoon about 1 1/2 tablespoons of the sausage mixture onto 1 side of each of the biscuit dough pieces about 3/4 inch from the edge.
- Using about 1/2 of the egg mixture, with a pastry brush, coat each of the biscuits on the 3/4-inch edge closest to the filling.
- Fold the other edge of each of the biscuits over the filling and line up the edges.
- Gently press the air out of each of the turnovers, then use a fork to crimp a seam along the edges.
- Place the turnovers onto the prepared baking sheets and evenly brush the tops and the sides with the remaining egg mixture.
- Evenly sprinkle the turnovers with the remaining cheese.
- Bake the turnovers until the tops are deeply golden-brown and the bottoms are dark brown, about 17-19 minutes.
- Serve.
