Ingredients

unsalted butter to taste, room temperature, for greasing the baking dish
8 large eggs
3 1/2 cups whole milk
1/3 cup sugar
1 3/4 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon coarse salt
10 slices brioche 1/2-inch-thick
1/2 cup raisins

Directions

Using the extra butter, grease a shallow 2-quart baking dish.
In a large bowl, whisk the eggs, the milk, the sugar, the cinnamon, and the salt together.
Dip the brioche slices into the egg mixture, then overlap them slightly in the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle the raisins between the slices.
Pour the remaining egg mixture over the brioche slices and let stand for at least 30 minutes at room temperature or up to overnight in the refrigerator.
Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F.
Bake the French toast bake until it is puffed and the custard is just set in the center, about 55 minutes-1 hour 5 minutes.
Let the French toast bake cool for 15 minutes.
Serve.
