Ingredients
- 4-6 slices of Applewood-smoked bacon cut into 1-inch slices
- 1/3 cup onion diced
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic minced
- 1 1/2 pounds fresh green beans washed and ends trimmed
- salt to taste
- pepper to taste
- 3 quarts of water plus more as needed
- unsalted butter optional, to taste
Directions
- In a large dutch oven, fry the bacon slices over medium-high heat until almost cooked through on both sides, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the onion and garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1-2 minutes.
- Add the green beans and the water.
- Bring the mixture to a boil and cook until the green beans are fork-tender and cooked through, for about 15-30 minutes.
- Drain the water.
- Season the green beans with salt, pepper, and butter.
- Serve hot.
