These crunchy, golden-brown chicken-fried-steaks are pan-fried and then braised in a simple but deliciously succulent and thick gravy. Ingredients

1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon cracked black pepper plus more, to taste, for garnish
1 teaspoon seasoned salt
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder optional
1 pound beef cube steaks
1/2 cup olive oil
2 cups beef broth

Directions

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
In a shallow bowl, add the flour, 1 teaspoon of the black pepper, the seasoned salt, and the garlic powder and whisk to combine.
Coat the cube steaks thoroughly with the flour mixture, patting the flour mixture onto the steaks to ensure a good coating.
Reserve 3 tablespoons of the flour mixture.
In a skillet over medium heat, add the olive oil.
Add the coated steaks, in batches to avoid overcrowding, to the hot oil and cook, flipping them once, until they are golden-brown on both sides, about 5 minutes per side.
Transfer the browned steaks to a 9x13-inch baking dish and repeat until all of the steaks are browned.
In a bowl, add the reserved flour mixture and the beef broth and whisk until smooth.
Pour the broth mixture over the steaks in the baking dish and cover the dish with foil.
Bake the steaks until the meat is tender and the broth mixture has thickened into a gravy, about 2 hours.
Serve the steaks with the gravy, garnished with the extra black pepper.
