Ingredients

  • 1/2 small onion chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 1/2 cups tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • salt to taste
  • pepper to taste
  • 2 1/2 cups anelletti pasta
  • 1 1/2 cups Parmesan Romano grated and divided
  • 1 1/2 cups mozzarella cheese grated
  • 1-2 tablespoons bread crumbs
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Directions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Grease a 9x13-inch or 9x9-inch pan.
  • In a medium-size skillet or frying pan, saute the onion and garlic in olive oil.
  • Add the ground beef and cook until browned throughout, about 6-8 minutes.
  • Add the tomato sauce, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper, stirring to mix.
  • Reduce the heat to a simmer.
  • Bring a medium-size pot of water to a boil.
  • Add the anelletti pasta to the boiling water but only partially cook them according to package directions, to just shy of al dente.
  • Drain the anelletti pasta in a colander.
  • In your skillet or frying pan, mix the pasta in with the ragu sauce.
  • Add the grated mozzarella cheese and 1 cup of the Parmesan Romano.
  • Pour the pasta/ragu mix into the prepared pan, spreading it evenly throughout the pan.
  • Sprinkle the bread crumbs and the rest of the parmesan cheese on top of the pasta.
  • Bake in the oven for 40 minutes.
  • Let the pasta stand in the pan for 10 minutes after taking it out of the oven. Serve!
