Howdy there. I just kindly wanted to say, move over Sloppy Joe, there's a new Midwestern kid in town! Iowa Sandwiches are known far-and-wide as the backbone of easy dinners. Our not-so-simple, hardworking folk still appreciate the ease of a simple meal with some splendidly seasoned, crumbled ground beef atop a hand-held toasty bun. We don't go for all the fussy, messy sauce; we know we are better-seasoned and cleaner-cut than that. Even though some of y'all think we're just out here growing corn, I'm here to tell ya that these Iowa sandwiches are our main claim to the fame game.

Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon olive oil
- 1/4 yellow onion minced
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1 cup beef broth
- 4 tablespoons prepared yellow mustard
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1/8 teaspoon kosher salt or cherry-smoked sea salt
- 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
- 4 hamburger-style buns optional, toasted
Directions
- In a large skillet over medium heat, add the olive oil.
- Add the onion to the olive oil and cook until tender, about 5 minutes.
- Add the ground beef to the onion and cook, while crumbling the meat, until the beef is no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes.
- Drain the excess grease.
- Add the beef broth to the ground beef mixture and stir to combine.
- Add the prepared mustard, the Worcestershire sauce, the salt, and the black pepper, stirring to combine, and cook until the liquid is mostly gone, about 15 minutes.
- Scoop the ground beef mixture onto the toasted buns and serve.
