Ingredients
- 4 tablespoons butter divided
- 2 large carrots peeled and grated
- 1/2 onion diced
- 1 green bell pepper diced
- 5 cloves garlic minced
- 2 1/2 pounds ground beef
- 1 1/2 cups ketchup
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon dry mustard
- 2 cups beef stock
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- hot sauce optional, to taste
- 12 slider rolls
- 1 teaspoon everything bagel seasoning or sesame seeds
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
- Place 2 tablespoons of the butter in a large skillet and place it over medium heat.
- Add the carrot, the onion, and the green bell pepper and cook until slightly softened, about 4 minutes.
- Add the garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.
- Add the ground beef, while crumbling, and cook until it is no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes. Drain the excess fat from the skillet.
- Add the ketchup, the brown sugar, the chili powder, the dry mustard, the beef stock, the tomato paste, the Worcestershire sauce, the salt, and the pepper and stir to combine.
- Simmer the mixture for 3-5 minutes.
- Add the hot sauce.
- Transfer the beef mixture to a 9x13-inch casserole dish.
- In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the remaining butter.
- Nestle the slider rolls (keeping the tops and bottoms together) onto the sloppy joe mixture.
- Brush the tops of the rolls with the melted butter.
- Sprinkle the everything bagel seasoning all over the top of the buttered rolls.
- Bake until the tops of the rolls are slightly toasted, about 8-10 minutes.
- Serve immediately.
