Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 tablespoon onion chopped
- 2 teaspoons cornstarch
- 1 (14.5-ounce) can diced tomatoes
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon onion salt
- 10 slices cheese of your choice, divided
- 4 hamburger buns split
Directions
- Place an oven rack about 6-8 inches from the broiler. Preheat the broiler.
- In a large skillet, cook and crumble the beef and the onions over medium heat until the meat is no longer pink, about 6-8 minutes.
- Sprinkle the meat mixture with the cornstarch, stirring until it is blended.
- Stir in the tomatoes and their juices, the oregano, the salt, and the onion salt.
- Cook, uncovered, until slightly thickened, about 5 minutes.
- Add 6 of the cheese slices into the meat mixture, cooking and stirring until the cheese is melted and blended.
- Place the hamburger buns cut-side up on an ungreased baking sheet.
- Spoon about 1/4 cup of the meat mixture onto each bun half.
- Cut the remaining cheese slices in half diagonally. Place each of the halved cheese slices over the meat on the buns.
- Broil the buns until the cheese is melted, for about 3-4 minutes.
- Serve hot.
