Ingredients
- 1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef cooked and drained
- 8 slices bacon cooked and diced
- 1 small onion diced
- 1 small green bell pepper diced
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/4 cup oatmeal
- 1 cup barbecue sauce
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- salt to taste
- black pepper to taste
- 6 slices American cheese
- 6 hamburger buns split
- 12 frozen breaded onion rings cooked according to the package directions
Directions
- In a slow cooker, add the beef, the bacon, the onions, the bell peppers, the water, the oatmeal, the barbecue sauce, and the brown sugar and stir to combine.
- Cover the slow cooker and cook until the flavors meld together and the vegetables are tender, about 4-6 hours on low.
- Add the salt and the black pepper to the sloppy Joe mixture.
- Place 1 slice of the American cheese on each of the hamburger bun bottoms.
- Spoon the sloppy Joe mixture evenly on top of the cheese slices.
- Top the sloppy Joe mixture on each bun, then top each with 2 of the onion rings.
- Close the sandwiches and serve.
