Ingredients
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1 (4 ounce) bar semi-sweet chocolate coarsely chopped, divided
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 3 large eggs room temperature
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 1 cup unsweetened natural or Dutch-process cocoa powder
- 1 cup all-purpose flour leveled
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/4 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
- Grease a 9x13-inch baking pan or line it with aluminum foil or parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides to lift the finished brownies out. Set the pan aside.
- In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the butter and 2 ounces of the chopped chocolate.
- Melt in 30-second increments, whisking after each interval, until completely smooth.
- Whisk in the sugar until completely combined.
- Whisk in the eggs and vanilla. The batter will be light brown.
- Add the cocoa powder, flour, salt, the remaining 2 ounces of the chopped chocolate and the chocolate chips.
- Fold the mixture together with a rubber spatula or wooden spoon. The batter will be very thick.
- Spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan.
- Bake until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with only a few moist crumbs on it, about 30-35 minutes.
- Remove the pan from the oven and place it on a wire rack to cool completely in the pan.
- Cut into squares and serve.
