Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour plus more, for a worksurface
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 8 tablespoons butter cubed
  • 3/4 cup milk plus more, to taste

Directions

  • Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F.
  • Butter the bottom of a skillet.
  • In a large bowl, combine the flour, the sugar, the baking powder, and the salt together.
  • Cut the butter into the flour mixture until it begins to look like cornmeal.
  • Make a well in the flour mixture and slowly add 3/4 cup of the milk into the middle of it.
  • Knead the dough with your fingers and add more of the milk if needed.
  • Roll the dough onto a lightly floured surface and roll it out to the desired thickness.
  • Cut the dough with a small biscuit cutter.
  • Place the biscuits in the prepared skillet and bake until they are golden-brown, about 12 minutes.
  • Serve.
