Ingredients

  • 8 ounces pasta
  • 6 ounces bacon
  • 1 small onion
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 1/4 cup parmesan grated
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper
  • 1/8 teaspoon crushed red pepper optional

Directions

  • Bring a pot of water to a boil.
  • Add the pasta to the boiling water and cook until the pasta is tender, for about 7-10 minutes.
  • Reserve 1/2 cup of the pasta water.
  • Drain the remaining pasta water.
  • Add the bacon to a large skillet and cook over medium heat until brown and crispy, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Transfer the bacon to a paper-towel-lined plate with a slotted spoon.
  • Crumble the bacon.
  • Drain most of the grease from the skillet, reserving about 2 tablespoons.
  • Finely dice the onion.
  • Add the diced onion to the reserved bacon grease and sauté over medium heat until tender, about 5 minutes.
  • Add the frozen peas and 1/4 cup of the reserved pasta water to the skillet.
  • Cook until the peas have heated through.
  • Add the drained pasta to the skillet, stirring to combine.
  • Remove the skillet from the heat.
  • Top the pasta with the parmesan, salt, pepper, red pepper, and crumbled bacon, stirring to combine.
  • Taste for seasoning and serve.
