Ingredients
- 4-6 slices of applewood-smoked bacon cut into 1-inch slices
- 1/3 cup onion diced
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic minced
- 1 1/2 pounds fresh green beans washed and with the ends cut off
- 3 quarts water plus more as needed
- salt to taste
- pepper to taste
- unsalted butter optional
Directions
- In a large dutch oven over medium heat, fry the bacon until almost cooked through on both sides, about 2 minutes per side.
- Add the onion and garlic and cook until the garlic is fragrant and the bacon is crispy, for about 1-2 minutes.
- Add the green beans and the water.
- Bring the water to a boil and cook until the green beans are fork-tender and cooked through, for about 15-30 minutes.
- Drain the water.
- Place the green beans, onions, and bacon in a serving bowl.
- Season with salt, pepper, and butter.
- Serve hot.
