Ingredients
For the burgers:
- 1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- salt to taste
- pepper to taste
- 1 cup cheddar cheese shredded, room temperature
- 4 soft hamburger buns
Optional toppings:
- tomatoes to taste, sliced
- red onion to taste, sliced
- lettuce leaves to taste
Directions
- Fill a large pot or a large deep skillet with enough water so that it comes up to the bottom of a steamer or a cooling rack with the legs inside the pot or skillet, ensuring the water does not touch it.
- Bring the water to a boil.
- Mix the ground beef, the Worcestershire sauce, the salt, and the pepper together thoroughly but gently.
- Form the meat mixture into four patties.
- Using a spatula, place the patties on the steamer or rack and cover the pan.
- Let the burgers steam until cooked through, about 7 minutes.
- Turn off the burner.
- Divide the shredded cheese between the burgers evenly, then quickly close the pan and let them steam again until the cheese is melted, about 2 minutes.
- Warm or toast the buns.
- Place the steamed burgers on the buns.
- Top with the tomatoes, the red onion, and the lettuce and serve!
