Ingredients

  • 1 pound bulk pork sausage
  • 4 medium tart apples peeled and sliced
  • 1 (8.5-ounce) package cornbread/muffin mix
  • 1/3 cup 2% milk
  • 1 large egg
  • maple syrup for serving

Directions

  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
  • Grease an 8-inch square baking dish.
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage, while crumbling it, until it is no longer pink, about 6-8 minutes. Drain the excess grease.
  • Transfer the sausage to the prepared baking dish and top with the apples.
  • In a small bowl, combine the muffin mix, the milk, and the egg until moistened and then pour the mixture over the apples.
  • Bake the sausage mixture, uncovered, until the edges are golden-brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, about 30-40 minutes.
  • Let the bake stand for 10 minutes.
  • Serve the bake with the maple syrup.
