Ingredients

2 (16-ounce) packages frozen broccoli florets
1 (14.4-ounce) package pearl onions
1/2 cup butter divided
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
2 cups 2% milk
6 ounces cream cheese cubed
1 cup cheddar cheese shredded
2 cups soft breadcrumbs

Directions

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Grease a 13x9-inch baking dish.
In a pot, cook the broccoli in 1 inch of water over high heat until almost tender, about 4 minutes. Drain the water.
In another pot, cook the onions in 1-inch of water over high heat until almost tender, about 3-4 minutes. Drain.
Transfer the broccoli and the onions to the prepared baking dish.
In a large saucepan, melt 1/4 cup of the butter.
Whisk the flour, the salt, and the pepper into the butter until smooth.
Gradually whisk the milk into the flour mixture.
Bring the flour mixture to a boil, cook and stir until thickened, about 1-2 minutes.
Reduce the heat.
Stir the cream cheese into the sauce mixture until blended.
Add the sauce mixture to the veggie mixture and gently stir to coat.
Sprinkle the bake with the cheddar cheese.
Melt the remaining butter and toss it with the breadcrumbs.
Sprinkle the breadcrumbs mixture over the casserole.
Bake, uncover, until the topping is golden brown, about 25-30 minutes.
Serve.
