Ingredients

For the pear filling:

butter to taste, for greasing the baking dish
5 large pears peeled and diced
2/3 cup granulated sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt

For the pecan topping:

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1/3 cup brown sugar firmly packed
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 cup pecans very finely chopped
1/2 cup butter melted
vanilla ice cream to taste, for serving

Directions

Adjust a rack to the center position in the oven, then preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Use the extra butter to grease a 10.5x12.5-inch baking dish.
In a large bowl, add the pears, 2/3 cup of the granulated sugar, and the salt and stir to combine.
In a second large bowl, add the flour, the remaining granulated sugar, the brown sugar, the cinnamon, and the pecans and stir to combine.
Drizzle the remaining 1/2 cup of melted butter into the flour mixture, while gradually stirring with a fork, until it is well-combined.
Place the pear mixture in the prepared baking dish and evenly sprinkle with the pecan mixture.
Bake the pear crisp on the center rack, about 30 minutes.
Move the baking dish to the top rack and bake the pear crisp until the topping is golden-brown, about 10 minutes.
