Ingredients

  • 8 ounces egg noodles
  • 1 1/4 pounds ground chuck
  • 1 (15-ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • black pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 1/4 cups small curd cottage cheese
  • 1/2 cup green onions sliced
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese grated

Directions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Coat a 9x13-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
  • In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook the egg noodles to al dente, according to the package directions. Drain.
  • While the noodles are cooking, in a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground chuck, while crumbling, until it is no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes. Drain the excess grease.
  • Reduce the heat to medium-low, add the tomato sauce, the salt, and the black pepper to the ground chuck and simmer, stirring occasionally, until it is heated through.
  • In a large bowl, add the sour cream and the cottage cheese and mix well.
  • Add the black pepper to the sour cream mixture and mix well.
  • Add the cooked noodles to the sour cream mixture and mix well.
  • Add the green onions to the noodle mixture and mix well.
  • Pour 1/2 of the noodle mixture into the prepared baking dish.
  • Evenly layer 1/2 of the ground chuck mixture on top of the noodle layer.
  • Evenly sprinkle 1/2 of the cheddar cheese on top of the meat layer.
  • Repeat the noodle layer, the meat layer, and the cheddar cheese layer once.
  • Bake the noodle mixture until the cheese has melted, about 20 minutes.
  • Let the bake rest.
  • Plate and serve.
