It certainly can be, and with Bacon Cheeseburger Shepherd's Pie, it is! Ingredients
For the pie:
- 2 pounds lean ground beef
- 1 cup onion diced
- 1 (10.5-ounce) can condensed cream of bacon soup
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1/2 cup real bacon bits
- 1 cup mozzarella and cheddar cheese blend, shredded
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon pepper
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon onion powder
- 8 ounces mashed potatoes cooked
For the topping:
- 2 cups mozzarella and cheddar cheese blend shredded
- 1/4 cup real bacon bits
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
- Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
- In a large sauté pan over medium-high heat, add the ground beef and cook and crumble it.
- Add the onions to the pan, stirring well with the beef.
- Cook the beef mixture until no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes.
- Drain the grease from the pan and reduce the heat to medium-low.
- Add the soup and the ketchup to the pan and stir well.
- Add 1/2 cup of the bacon bits, 1 cup of the cheese blend, the salt, the pepper, the garlic powder, and the onion powder to the pan, stirring until fully combined.
- Pour the beef mixture into the baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
- Spread the mashed potatoes on top of the ground beef mixture in the baking dish.
- Sprinkle the remaining cheese and the remaining bacon bits on top of the mashed potatoes.
- Bake until bubbly and the cheese is lightly golden brown, about 25 minutes.
- Let stand for 5 minutes.
- Serve.
